Open House - Meet and Greet |
Week One |
First Grade families stepped into room 155 to get a feel for their new classroom during open house. Welcome to High Tech Elementary North County. Learners welcome home.
|
Week one was a busy week! Students began to learn names, make new friends, develop routines, and work together as part of a community. They also began to see themselves as readers who make specific reading choices, mathematicians who think deeply about the numbers around them, and artists who take specific steps in a process for creating beautiful work.

Week 2 |
Week 3 |
This week students are learning our Strong Reader strategy #1. Strong readers stop and think about what they are reading as they read. As strong readers, we look at the author's clues such as the title, cover, word choice, and illustrations to make predictions about the story. Continue this practice at home! We have also begun to find our writing voices this week. After reading and learning from our friend Molly in Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon by Patty Lovell, students began to think and brainstorm ideas about what makes them special and why. This week students shared their personal artifacts, learned about their peers, practiced presenting their work, and began building their first replica models of the year. Working with fourth grade buddies on their writing, they learned that we can always add to our work to make it better. Likewise, our third grade buddies taught us that our ideas matter to all ages and it is always best to learn from one another.
|
Week 4In week four, students prepared their Explorer Journals and set out to begin their investigations of the campus. Keep watching to see their first days of field work. We can't wait to begin collecting artifacts!
|
Week 5Week five was such a filled week for our class! Our fourth grade buddies visited us during our Reading Workshop time and shared their reading skills. We also practiced using our observation techniques by visiting both the middle and high schools at High Tech. This work paid off as we ventured to the Museum of Man and learned about real artifacts from the Maya and Egyptian cultures.
